Lost
I wandered around lost in fascination. This was a truly
beautiful forest. The trees touched the sky and the leaves were large with
intense shades of green. The river water was as clear as crystal. All the
marine life could be seen through it. The land animals had fabulous feathers
and pelts that were full of striking colours and patterns.
I gave a sideward glance back to the plane that was left in
ruins. Smoke slowly rose from the tattered plane I was the only survivor left
from the traumatizing crash. How was I ever going to escape or more
importantly, survive?
Time passed quickly. I could no longer see my own hand.
Adrenalin pumped fiercely through my veins as I searched desperately for
resources.
This whole forest scenery seemed more and more like a maze
every minute. The tree trunks looked identical and I could sense several,
blood-thirsty eyes stalking me from high above the tree tops.
After walking hopelessly around in circles, noises stopped me
dead in my tracks. Sss! Sss! I heard loud hissing noises nearby and the hissing
became even louder. Every bit of me was screaming for me to run for my life,
but fear had trapped me in a cruel way.
One light touch of a forked tongue on my neck and it had me
screaming hysterically and running faster than the blink of an eye. I had no
idea where I was running to or where I was.
All of my hope was lost until I caught the last moments of
daylight through the thick layers of the forest. Somehow I managed to find an
open space. I stopped and embraced the very last minute of daylight. My eyes
were glued to the sky as darkness slowly oozed over the fiery orange horizon.
I kneeled along the river to wash my face that was smeared with
smoke from the plane crash. I lifted my head from the warm water to admire the
captivating reflection of the stunning sky.
In the middle of the river was a small wooden boat just
floating there. Joy instantly washed away my worries. The boat wasn’t the most
attractive boat ever, but it was big enough for one person. It must have been a
life boat from the plane, but that didn’t matter for all I knew it could be my
key to survival.

The Magic Violin
I was browsing on Craigslist, an online trading market, when a
decent priced violin popped up on the screen. Clicking on the site, it led me
to the deal. It turned out he lived in Kilm, a street in the suburb next to
mine. I was absolutely stunned. Never had I ever found such a great deal like
this. My old violin was now just wood and strings so I was quite eager for a
new one. I furiously logged into my email hoping no one else had asked him and
sent him a request for the violin.
The user replied faster than I had expected. He explained that
that he would only do local deals. I replied with a message telling him I lived
close by. Instantly I got a reply from him telling me the meeting information.
Although it was a great deal, something did not seem right.
A while passed then the alarm buzzed for me to meet him. I drove
to the gas station that he mentioned and realised that it was as silent as a
graveyard. I could not see the man but I heard a sad melody of a violin to my
left. I carefully crept towards it. I took a quick glance at my watch. It was
7:57. I stared in awe. It had only been 7:40 before. I ignored the time and
continued to the left. Again the melody played breaking the empty silence in
the air. The field of grass was soft but it did not seem like an area that I
could enter.
The violin lay there silently in the grass. No one I could see
seemed to be around. I walked towards it noticing a small note taped on the
violin. I quietly read the note to myself. It read, “Dear user, I am sorry I
could not be here to meet you. I have deposited the violin. Trusting that you
will pay me, please leave half of the original price on the ground.”
I was overwhelmed with joy. I left the money, gleefully sprinted
to my car and drove home.
The violin was quite an old one, though it was still in decent
shape. I tried a couple of tunes that I remembered. The tunes did not seem
regular, they sounded more smooth and professional. I did not think much of it.
Leaving the violin on the bench, I turned off the lights, plopped into my warm
bed and fell into a deep sleep.
I awoke to the soft sound of creaking planks and rattling. The
midnight dark and the cold of the night made it eerie. I slowly crept towards
the room.
I was greeted by three full human skeletons. Their movement was
incredibly stiff but they stared at me with their empty eye sockets. I was
paralysed by the sight of the skeletons. One of them shifted its arm. It
pointed at me then lifted its other arm and pointed at the new violin. The skeleton
motioned its hand in a form like he wanted me to break it. I could not
understand its true intentions but trusting my mind, I picked up the violin and
pounded it into the ground with such a great force that it shattered. I noticed
particles in the air. Soon I realised the skeletons were slowly fading into the
air. They did not seem angered or annoyed, in fact they seemed relieved.
Soon after the skeletons were completely gone, I realised I felt
more uncomfortable, more old. I fell back into my bed and within seconds I was
back to normal.
